Cwmllynfell Drum Head Memorial

After the conclusion of the Armistice ending the First World War a drum head memorial service was held in Cwmllynfell.

CWMLLYNFELL

A drumhead memorial and thanksgiving service for peace was held on Tomen Owen ground last Sunday afternoon, at which it was computed that between three and four thousand people were present. It certainly was the most largely attended service of any description held in the locality. The weather being favourable furnished all that was needed to make the ceremony a success.

Assembling at the rear of the station at 2 o'clock all the discharged men and others of the district were marshalled by Dr. Lindsay.

The procession then, headed by the Brynamman Silver Band, proceeded to the Tomen Owen Grounds. The service commenced with the singing of the hymn, 'O God our help in ages past,' the singing being conducted by Mr D.W. Rowlands. Then came the president's address by the Rev. G.R. Davies, Abercrave.

The following reverend gentlemen also officiated:- Rev. D. Willams, Curate St. margaret's, Cwmllynfell; Rev. T. Eirug Davies, B.A., B.D., Cwmllynfell; Rev. Evan Davies, B.A., Cwmgorse, and Rev. W.P. Jones, Cwmllynfell. Then followed a selection by the band, and the benediction.

The scene was impressive whilst the Last Post was being sounded.

A collection to defray expenses realised nearly £14.
