Articles of Remembrance

Newspaper Articles of Remembrance

As well as individual reports of the deaths or wounding in action of soldiers from local villages, and later their burial, or remembrance service at local chapels, the Llais newspaper also ran articles of more general ceremonies of remembrance.

This section of Ystalyfera Fallen website brings together these articles in one easy-to-navigate index, located to the right of this paragraph.

Included are newspaper articles where the churches and chapels of a locality came together either to remember a roll call of the local dead, or to dedicate a memorial to their memory.

In addition, the newspaper itself ran articles attempting to bring together the names of everyone from a larger locality in preparation for civic war memorials, some of which came to pass, and some of which remained only on paper.

The dedication of these larger-scale war memorials is also remembered both in newspaper articles and in photographs contributed by local persons, and the Royal British Legion.
